To get an expert analysis on the audio tracks in the videos we escalated the videos to ElevenLabs, a company specialising in voice A.I. While the backdrop, clothing, and body language of the subjects, in the original and manipulated videos are identical, the audio tracks are not. A female voice accompanying the anchor’s visuals links the introduction of the supposed gaming app to Mr. Ambani’s marriage. The team ran the video through audio as well as video detection models, the results that returned indicated high confidence for A.I. Unlike many modern mobile games that rely on in-app purchases or randomized rewards, Chicken Road allows players to progress based on gameplay performance.

When someone first told me to try Chicken Road, I thought it was just another silly tap-and-dodge mobile game. Their remarks about the presence of a sequence of A.I.-generated landscape images toward the end of the video corroborated our own observations on the same. To get another expert to weigh in on the video, we escalated it to our partner GetRealLabs, co-founded by Dr. Hany Farid and his team, they specialise in digital forensics and A.I. For expert analysis, we escalated the video to our detection partner ConTrailsAI, a Bangalore-based startup with its own A.I.

BOOM found that the claims are false and Anant Ambani has not endorsed any such gaming app; the video has been created using an AI-generated voice clone. Hence, the viral video showing Anant Ambani promoting gaming app was found to be manipulated using AI. A male voice recorded over Ambani’s video track claims that every week up to a certain sum of money can be made through the supposed gaming app, however, the specific figure mentioned is unclear. Detection tools and seeking inputs from experts, we assessed that the videos were manipulated using synthetic audio to propagate a financial scam. Hence, we conclude that the viral video featuring the Ambanis, Kohli and Roshan was created by combining clips from different videos, with the audio manipulated using AI.

However, they were able to confirm that the audio in the other video of Mr. Ambani is synthetic, implying that it was generated using A.I. They indicated that the likely cause of the unconvincing result for the video track is the use of advanced and latest lip-sync method, which makes the video look very realistic. However, the rest of the video was detected to be real, which they said is a false prediction. They added that the audio track is used as an input for any lip-sync model that’s why the inconsistencies in the lip-sync were picked up by their tool around those specific moments.

We undertook a reverse image search using screenshots from the video and traced the clips to this video published on Feb. 26, 2024 from the official YouTube channel of Business Today. The video framing alternates between a medium shot and a medium close-up, with Ambani’s face, especially his mouth, being clearly visible in both. The voice sounds rushed and there is no change in the tone or pitch. The voice attributed to Ambani bears similarity to his natural voice, however, in between sentences a peculiar sound can be heard, which seems to mimic the natural human breathing sound.
Though his lip movements appear to be in sync with the accompanying audio his upper lip seems static, which is especially visible in close-ups. The video is 10-minutes-and-21-seconds long, though, it has only 49-seconds of audio-visual content followed by a series of static scenic images. At first, we noticed that Ambani’s lip movements were not perfectly matching the words heard in the viral video. The interview carries no statement by Ambani regarding a monetary reward for Indians as claimed in the viral video.
